One night in Boston I was at my 1st Stevie Wonder concert at The Wang Center in nosebleed. Out of nowhere Stevie asked if there were any singers in the audience. I don't remember much else until I came to and found myself on stage with a microphone in my hand standing next to Stevie's incredible grand piano with a giant blue map of Africa on the top of it. He started playing "Ribbon in the Sky". I was cued in to sing the verse "This is not a coincidence but far more than a lucky chance"....and yes it was a lucky chance. I finished the song to see the entire audience on there feet...cheering, standing O...WOW! I remember hugging Stevie and not wanting to let go...again, I don't remember anything else.
A couple years later I happened to be in Sam Ash in Times Square, NYC where my boyfriend at the time worked. When Stevie came in to shop, they close down the store for him. My boyfriend, who had helped Stevie several times brought me over to him and said "Stevie, this is my girlfriend Deanna..the one I told you about who sang with you once"...He shook my hand I don't remember anything else.. I know I couldn't speak..and before I knew it he was pulled away.
There are great moments in ones life.. those were two of mine. Meeting the man who has inspired me most in MUSIC and has written a soundtrack to my life. I love him so much and am so thankful for him.
Happy Birthday Stevie...and many more!
